This
cave was discovered at the back of the old gas works when
workmen were preparing a site for a gas tank in 1860. This
Cave has a unique cantilever entrance. When Sir James Simpson
(discoverer of
chloroform) discovered this cave there was a millstone at the entrance.
It was still visible there until the fall from the roof in
the 1960’s over 100 years later. Sir James found particles
of grain here, took these home and planted them in his garden
where they germinated This Cave has a unique cantilever entrance.
